LWE related violence down by 76% in 2022 from cases in 2010
- Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that violence related to Left-wing Extremism (LWE) had come down by 76% in 2022 as compared to 2010, owing to the Centre’s threepronged strategy — a resolute approach to curb extremist violence, better coordination with the affected States and development through public participation.
- Mr. Shah, while chairing the meeting of the Parliamentary Consultative Committee on LWE, said that for the first time in four decades, the number of deaths of civilians and security forces was under 100 last year.
- The Home Minister said the number of civilian and security personnel killed in LWE incidents declined to 98 in 2022 from 1,005 in 2010. The number of districts affected dropped from 90 to 45. Sharing details of the measures taken by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), he said since 2019, the armed forces had established 175 new camps to plug the security vacuum in the LWEinfested zones.
Bhupender Yadav Launched ‘Save Wetlands Campaign’ For Wetland Conservation
- Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav launched the ‘Save Wetlands Campaign’ in the presence of the Chief Minister of Goa.
- This campaign is structured on a “whole of society” approach to wetlands conservation, enabling affirmative actions for wetlands conservation at all levels of society and involving all strata of society.
- This campaign over the next year will include sensitizing people to the value of wetlands, increasing the coverage of wetland mitras, and building citizen partnerships for wetlands conservation.
- Various green initiatives taken by the Government in the budget 2023 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi including Amrit Dharohar, MISHTI, PM PRANAM, Green credit, and Green Growth aligned with Mission Life.
Delhi child rights body unveils WhatsApp chatbot service ‘Bal Mitra’
- Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) unveiled “Bal Mitra,” a WhatsApp chatbot designed to improve communication between kids and parents in Delhi.
- “The chatbot ‘Bal Mitra’ will serve as a source of reliable information regarding children and their rights,” claims Manish Sisodia, the deputy chief minister of Delhi.
- The Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CPCR) Act of 2005 established DCPCR as a statutory body under the Delhi government.
- The chatbot’s features include tracking complaint progress, registering complaints, searching for admissions-related information, and more.
- The chatbot intends to protect the confidentiality of the issues reported through it and to deliver accurate information on a range of issues relating to children and their rights.
