Indian women's cricket team win historical U19 T20 World Cup
- India's under-19 women's cricket team have made history as they clinched the inaugural U19 Women's T20 World Cup by defeating England by seven wickets.
- Chasing a target of 69, India reached the target in 14 overs losing only three wickets. Earlier, India's bowling attack, led by pace sensation Titas Sadhu and leg-spinner Parshavi Chopra bundled out England for 68. While Sadhu returned with impressive figures of 4-0-6-2, Chopra too gave ample display of her prowess as she finished with figures of two for 13.
- Archana Devi also scalped 2 for 17, while Mannat Kashyap (1/13), Shafali Verma (1/16) and Sonam Yadav (1/3) accounted for one wicket each.
Germany wins 2023 FIH Men's Hockey World Cup title
- Germany beat Belgium in penalty shootout to win the 2023 Men's FIH Hockey World Cup at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.
- Germany ended a 17-year-long wait to claim their third World Cup honour, having won in 2002 and 2006.
- 28-year-old Niklas Wellen was adjudged Player of the Match for scoring two penalties and a penalty corner.
- Germany is only behind Pakistan, who has won the tournament four times (1971, 1978, 1982, and 1994).
- India hosted the Hockey World Cup for the fourth time after 1982 (Mumbai), 2010 (Delhi), and 2018 (Odisha). It is the most time a nation has hosted the tournament. Notably, India became the first nation to be hosting the tournament twice in a row.
Djokovic wins 2023 Australian Open men's singles final, claims 10th title
- Serbian Tennis star Novak Djokovic swept Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3, 7-6, 7-6 to claim the title in the Australian Open men's singles final.
- Djokovic, 35, burst into the major final with a dominating 6-3 win against Greece's Tsitsipas in the opening set. After breaking No. 3 Tsitsipas' serve in the fourth game of set, No. 4 Djokovic jumped to a 3-1 lead and maintained the advantage. The 35-year-old repeated the feat in the third set to take home the victory.
- With the win, Djokovic snags the 10th Australian Open title of his career, which comes a year after he wasn't allowed to compete at Melbourne Park because he wasn't vaccinated for COVID-19. The win also marks his 22nd Grand Slam singles title, tying him with Rafael Nadal for the men's record.
