Telangana Hyderabadi Haleem bags ‘Most Popular GI’ award
- Telangana’s Hyderabadi Haleem has won the ‘Most Popular GI’ award after beating other food items including Rasgulla, Bikaneri Bhujiya, and Ratlami Sev.
- In a rigid competition with more than 15 food items across the country with Geographical Indication (GI) status, the famous Hyderabadi Haleem has bagged the ‘Most Popular GI’ award.
- GI tag is given to products to ensure that authorised users can only use the popular product name. For the first time, GI status was accorded to Hyderabadi Haleem in 2010. It expired in December 2019. However, later, the registrar of Geographical Indicator renewed the tag for the dish for 10 years.
Modi launches Rozgar Mela
- Mr. Modi launched a Rozgar Mela (recruitment drive) for 10 lakh Union government jobs through video conferencing. During the ceremony, appointment letters were handed over to 75,000 appointees in the first batch.
- These new recruits will join 38 Ministries and departments at Group A, B (both gazetted and nongazetted) and C levels. The posts to which appointments are being made include central armed force personnel, subinspector, constable, lower division clerk, stenographer, personal assistant, income tax inspector and multitasking staff.
- The Prime Minister announced in June that the existing 10 lakh vacancies in Union government departments would be filled in a mission mode till 2023 ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha election.
Tamil Nadu sets up Governing Council on Climate Change
- The Tamil Nadu government has decided to establish the Tamil Nadu Governing Council on Climate Change, with Chief Minister M.K. Stalin as its head.
- It had also set up a special purpose vehicle, known as the Tamil Nadu Green Climate Company (TNGCC), to steer climate action effectively.
- The purpose of the Governing Council was to provide a policy directive to the Tamil Nadu Climate Change Mission, advise on climate adaptation and mitigation activities, provide guidance to the Tamil Nadu State Action Plan on Climate Change and guide the implementation strategy for climate action.
ISRO’s heaviest rocket with 36 satellites on board lifts off
- The heaviest rocket of the Indian Space Research Organisation, the LVM3M2/OneWeb India1, with 36 satellites on board took off from the second launch pad (SLP) of the Satish Dhawan Space Centre SHAR at Sriharikota at 12.07 a.m. on Sunday.
- LVM3M2 is the dedicated commercial satellite mission of NewSpace India Ltd. (NSIL), a Central public sector enterprise under the Department of Space.
- With this launch, LVM3 is making its entry into the “global commercial launch service market”. This mission is being undertaken as part of the commercial arrangement entered into between NSIL and Network Access Associates Limited (m/s OneWeb Ltd), a U.K. based company.
No traffic fines in Gujarat till Oct. 27 in view of Deepavali
- No fines will be collected from traffic rule violators till October 27 in view of Deepavali festivities, the Gujarat government has announced. The decision was taken so that people’s “Deepavali is not spoiled”.
- From October 21 to 27, traffic police in Gujarat will not collect any fine from people. If anyone is caught without a helmet or driving licence or found violating any other traffic rule during this period, our police will give them a flower.
Deesa base fills gaps in airfields between Gujarat, Rajasthan
- The new Deesa airfield to be constructed in Gujarat close to the western border fills a huge gap between airbases in Gujarat and Rajasthan.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone virtually last week at the expo, where he said the forward base will add to the security architecture of the country.
- The new airbase will help optimise fuel carrying by aircraft in addition to balancing Pakistan’s recent upgrades in the area, a defence official stated, while adding that the base would also be well protected while allowing the Air Force to launch offensive operations when required.
- The project received sanction from the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) in March 2018 at a cost of ₹ 997.63 crore and will be executed in two phases.
Access to palliative care only for 12% of those in need: data
- Only 12% of the population who need palliative care have access to it in India compared to the global average of 14%, according to Health Ministry data analysis released by the health unit of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI).
- The analysis shows that while India stands at number three in terms of cancer incidence in the world, most States in the country do not even have enabling legislation or policy to integrate palliative care with treatment offered to cancer patients.
- Currently only three States (Kerala, Karnataka and Maharashtra) have a palliative care policy. Kerala, Mizoram, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Punjab and Assam report the highest overall crude incidence rates of cancers which is greater than 130 cases per lakh population.
