At COP27,India opposes draft text on agriculture
- India has opposed the developed world’s efforts to extend the scope of mitigation to agriculture at the ongoing UN climate summit in Egypt, saying rich nations do not want to change their lifestyle to reduce emissions and are“ searching for cheaper solutions abroad”, sources said on Thursday.
- Expressing concern over the draft decision text on the Koronivia Joint Work on Agriculture, India said developed countries are blocking a pro poor and profarmer decision by insisting on expanding the scope for mitigation to agriculture, thereby compromising the very foundation of food security in the world, a source in the Indian delegation said.
- India made it clear that the world is facing a climate crisis today because of the excessive historic cumulative emissions by the developed nations.

- Former bureaucrat C.V.Ananda Bose was onThursday appointed theGovernor of West Bengal, a communique from the Rashtrapati Bhavan said.
- Manipur Governor LaGanesan has been holding the additional charge of West Bengal since Julywhen Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned to contest the Vice-Presidential polls.
- Mr. Bose is a 1977 batch former officer of the Indian Administrative Service. He has served in the rank of Secretary of Government of India and Chief Secretary to State governments as well as the Vice-chancellor of a university.He is known for his innovative ideas in the field of good governance.
Govt of India to Abolish National Anti-profiteering Authority
- National Anti-profiteering Authority (NAA) is the anti-profiteering watchdog of GST and it is all set to be subsumed into the Competition Commission of India (CCI).
- NAA’s investigation arm will continue to function in some form under CCI. The official said that the move will reduce the multiplicity of regulators as CCI can handle cases independently. The plan is to transfer cases to CCI after NAA’s term ends.
- National Anti-profiteering Authority (NAA) is therefore primarily constituted by the central government to analyze whether input tax credits availed by any registered person or the reduction in the tax is passed onto the consumer and he/she is protected from random price increase for self-interests in the name of GST.
