- The United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has issued a stark warning about climate change, saying “humanity has a choice: cooperate or perish."
- In the World Leaders' Summit today at COP27, Mr Guterres said countries can work together in a "Climate Solidarity Pact – or a Collective Suicide Pact.” He added: “We are in the fight of our lives. And we are losing. Greenhouse gas emissions keep growing. Global temperatures keep rising."
- The UN leader said the world is quickly "approaching tipping points" that will lead to "climate chaos" becoming irreversible. He told the crowd of world leaders: “We are on a highway to climate hell with our foot on the accelerator.”
