India Celebrates 400th Birth Anniversary of Lachit Barphukan
- The 3-day long celebrations of the 400th birth anniversary of Ahom commander Lachit Barphukan began in New Delhi. Union Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated the exhibition on the occasion highlighting the life and achievement of the Ahom dynasty and Lachit Barphukan among others.
- Ahom King Prataap Singha appointed Lachit Borphukan as the Commander-in-Chief of the Ahom army under the first Borbarua, Momai Tamuli, to lead upper Assam during the 17th century.
- Lachit Borphukan was a commander in the erstwhile Ahom kingdom and is known for his leadership in the 1671 battle of Sarai ghat that thwarted an attempt by Mughal forces to capture Assam. Assam celebrates Lachit Diwas on November 24 as a tribute to Borphukan's valour and heroism.
Centre to launch month-long campaign against gender-based violence today
- The Centre is set to roll out a nationwide campaign on Friday to sensitise women, especially in rural areas, about gender-based violence and make them aware of various institutional mechanisms available to help them.
- 'Nai Chetna', the month-long campaign envisioned as a 'Jan Andolan' (people's movement), will be launched by Union Minister for Rural Development Giriraj Singh at an event here to mark International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls.
- To bring the change, we are going to start a month-long campaign against gender-based discrimination and violence with a focus on rural areas.
- Over the next five years, according to the ministry, the campaign seeks to build a common understanding and recognition of gender disadvantage and discrimination across levels among community institutions, rural communities and government departments.
Assam Cabinet Approves Rs 500 crore To Construct 2000 Anganwadi Centres in Assam
- The Assam Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on 23rd of November, took some important decisions on the ongoing situations of the state.
- Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that, the Cabinet has approved Rs 500 crore to build 2,000 Anganwadi centres all over Assam, especially in the rural areas.
- The prime motive behind the construction of these centres is to improve the childcare services, especially in the rural areas. The cost of each Anganwadi centre will be Rs 25 lakh, hence the overall cost of 2000 centre will be Rs 500 crore.
- CM Himanta Biswa Sarma mentioned in his tweet on Wednesday that, some key decisions have been undertaken by the Assam cabinet regarding government holidays of 2023, construction of new Anganwadi centres, new handloom and tourist infrastructure and so on.
Ravi Kumar Sagar honoured with the prestigious Dr. Kalam Seva Puraskar
- Ravi Kumar Sagar, one of the youngest founders and CEO of RK’S INNO group was conferred with the most prestigious Dr. Abdul Kalam Seva Puraskar.
- The award was presented to him for his persistent service to society and is one of the youngest entrepreneurs in India.
- A young entrepreneur from the twin Telugu states, Ravi Kumar Sagar also known as RK’S nailed it as a budding entrepreneur during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.
- Dr. Kalam Seva Puraskar is hosted every year by Vandhe Bharat Foundation and Lead India Foundation to commemorate the birth anniversary of the late former President of India Dr. APJ Adul Kalam. The award is conferred to the deserving candidates on the birth anniversary of Dr. Kalam for recognizing various people who have been doing extraordinary work for society.
