TIME magazine names Ukraine's Zelenskyy Person of the Year.
- Time magazine named President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as well as “the spirit of Ukraine” as its 2022 person of the year, for the resistance the country has shown in the face of Russia’s invasion.
- The Ukrainian President, once one of the most popular TV comedians in the country, couldn’t have imagined less than four years ago that his neighbour, the world’s third strongest country in power ranking, would come knocking down all the doors to the gates of the state capital, Kyiv.
- For proving that courage can be as contagious as fear, for stirring people and nations to come together in defence of freedom, for reminding the world of the fragility of democracy — and of peace — Volodymyr Zelensky and the spirit of Ukraine are TIME’s 2022 Person of the Year.
- Time’s annual selection has often sparked debate since it began in 1927.
