- Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy said the State capital would be shifted to Visakhapatnam.
- The previous Naidu government in 2015 declared Amaravati as the state capital and acquired 33,000 acres of land from farmers to build the new capital city. The Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) was constituted to provide basic amenities such as roads, drinking water, drainage and electricity in the new city, which Naidu promised to develop on a Singapore model.
- Andhra Pradesh lost its capital Hyderabad to Telangana when the state was divided into two in 2013-2014. Under the Andhra-Telangana reorganisation act, the Centre promised to provide adequate funds to Andhra Pradesh to develop a new capital.
Shanti Bhushan, former Law Minister, dies
- Former Law Minister and senior advocate Shanti Bhushan passed away on Tuesday. He was 97.
- He always stood for truth as a Law Minister in the Morarji Desai Cabinet between 1977 and 1979 and as a senior advocate who fought alongside his son and civil rights lawyer, Prashant Bhushan, for judicial accountability and transparency.
- As Law Minister, Mr.Bhushan introduced the 44th Constitution Amendment in 1978 to save the Basic Structure of the Constitution and uphold the powerof judicial review of laws curtailed by the controversial 42nd Amendment introduced during the Emergency.
