India’s 1st Hydrogen train will come by Dec 2023 on Heritage Routes
- Going greener and more sustainable towards the environment, the Indian Railways is introducing a green revolution and will be introducing hydrogen and electric trains to the eight heritage routes in the country by December 2023.
- The Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed this recently. These hydrogen trains will include the modified version of steam engines, that will be back on tracks, equipped with vintage sirens and green steam vapors.
- Hydrogen engines have been developed by a few countries like Germany, France, and China, and now India will also be a part of this, the minister added.
- Talking about this initiative, Vaishnaw added that the new trains will run on the routes of Kalka-Shimla Railways, Nilgiri Mountain Railways, Darjeeling Hills, Kangra Railways, Bilimora Waghai, Mhow-Patalpani, Marwar-devgarh-Madriya, and Matheran Hill Railways in Maharashtra.
Government of Goa Launched Vision for All School Eye Health Program
- The Government of Goa has launched the Vision for All School Eye Health program in partnership with One Sight Essilor Luxottica Foundation and Prasad Netralaya. The program is an extension of the current Vision for All Goa eye health program.
- The Vision for All Goa eye health program commenced in February 2021 and its monthly camps have screened 50,000 citizens and provided free spectacles to 16,000 people in need.
- The Vision for All School Eye Health will focus on training 2000 teachers on basic visual acuity tests for the children in their respective schools, followed by detailed refraction by qualified professionals from Prasad Netralaya.
- One Sight Essilor Luxottica Foundation has committed to providing 25,000 free spectacles to children identified with refractive error.
NIA Launched ‘Pay as You Drive’ Vehicle Insurance Policy
- New India Assurance (NIA) has launched a ‘Pay as You Drive’ (PAYD) policy, which offers a comprehensive motor insurance policy that charges a premium based on the usage of the vehicle. The policy has two components- Third Party cover and own-damage cover.
- The policy comes with various benefits. For instance, the customer can save money through discounts on renewal premiums, provided the vehicle runs within the specified kilometers.
- The discount applied for the ‘Pay as You Drive’ is the basic own damage premium.
- In addition, the coverage will continue for the policy’s remaining duration even if the vehicle has been driven beyond the threshold limit.
- India’s largest non-life insurance firm informed that the clients could avail of a discount on the renewal albeit at a lower applicable range.
