Mughal Garden Renamed To 'Amrit Udyan' In Delhi's Rashtrapati Bhavan
- The Centre renamed the Mughal Garden in New Delhi's Rashtrapati Bhavan to Amrit Udyog keeping in line with the government's theme of 'Amrit Mahotsav' marking India's 75 years of independence.
- Navika Gupta, the deputy press secretary to President Droupadi Murmu, said, "On the occasion of the celebrations of 75 years of Independence as 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav', the President of India has given a common name to the Rashtrapati Bhavan gardens as Amrit Udyan."
- The Amrit Udyan will be inaugurated by the President on Sunday and it will remain open for public viewing from January 31 to March 26. The garden generally remains open for public viewing once a year, in February, when the flowers are in a full bloom.
- The history of the famed gardens of the Rashtrapati Bhavan is as rich as its scented stocks of flowers, and intertwined with the creation of the President’s House (originally built as Viceroy’s House), designed by architect Sir Edwin Lutyens.
Student enrolments in higher studiesrose by 7.5% in 202021
- The Union Education Ministry released data from the All-India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE), 20202021, which showed a 7.5% increase instudent enrolments acrossthe country from the 201920 figures, with the total enrolments reaching 4.13crore.
- The survey revealed that in 202021, when the COVID19 pandemic began, there was a 7% rise in enrolments in distance education programmes.
- There is a notable increase in OBC student enrolment since 201415 of around 36 lakh (32%),” a Ministry statement said.
- While the increase was noted in absolute numbers, the proportion of SC students dropped to 14.2%in 202021 from 14.7% the previous year and the proportion of OBC student to 35.8% from 37%.
- The proportion of Muslim students dropped to 4.6% from 5.5% in 201920 with the proportion of “other minority students “dropping to 2% from 2.3%.
