SC to release judgments in 13 Indian languages on Republic Day
- Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud announced in open court that the Supreme Court will release 1,268 judgments in 13 Indian languages on Republic Day in a bid to make justice administration more accessible tothe common man.
- “To begin with, we have translated 1,091 judgments to Hindi, 21 to Odia, 14 Marathi, four Assamese, one Garo, 17 Kannada,one Khasi, 29 Malayalam, three Nepali, four Punjabi, 52 Tamil, 28 Telugu and three Urdu,” the CJI addressed the courtroom.
- The judgments would be made available in the court’s eSCR portal. The portal which is the repository of the electronic version of Supreme Court Reports (SCR) now has some additional features too.
Jal Jeevan mission provides tap water to 11 crore houses
- The Jal Shakti Ministry tweeted that the government had provided 11 crore rural households with a tap water connection. Data from the Ministry suggest that 56% of the targeted 19.3 crore households had been covered.
- In September 2022, 53% of the households, or10.2 crore households, had been covered. In villages where the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) has reached, the adolescent girls no longer drop out of school to help their mother walk long distances and get water to quench their thirst, Mr. Shekhawat said in a tweet.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Ministry, via a tweet, on the achievement.
Indian Navy’s “TROPEX 2023” maritime exercise held in the Indian Ocean
- The 2023 edition of Indian Navy’s major maritime exercise Theatre Level Operational Readiness Exercise (TROPEX), is currently underway in the Indian Ocean Region.
- This operational level exercise is conducted biennially and witnesses participation not only by all Indian Navy units but also of Indian Army, Indian Air Force and Coast Guard assets.
- The first exercise of maritime surveillance was held in January 2019. It is also called the biggest war game of the Indian Navy.
- TROPEX 23 is being conducted over a duration of three months from Jan – Mar 23.
- As part of the exercise, all surface combatants of the Indian Navy including Destroyers, Frigates, Corvettes as well as submarines and aircraft are put through complex maritime operational deployments to validate and refine the Navy’s Concept of Operations including operational logistics and inter operability with other Services.
